The Trinity Broads

Postby DAYTONA-BILL » December 28th, 2009, 10:10 pm

Hi all, Does anybody know if the Trnity Broads network (Ormsby Rollsby and Filby broads) were ever connected to the main network and navigable?. I know there`s a drainage channel that flows into the Bure, but was this originally a navigable river?. Regards and a happy new year to all........................Neil. :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi Neil

I'm no expert but I tend to think not. I have a vaugue idea that they are on a slightly different level, not sure if the Muck Fleet hasn't got a lock on it somewhere. As I say, could be way off the mark. I also have an idea that it can be navigated most of the way by dinghy or canoe but some 'portage' is involved I believe.

There is a Village Staithe at Filby, therefore Muck Fleet must have been navigable at some point in time.

Hi Strowager, and thanks for putting up the link to songofthepaddle. A couple of friends of mine at work will be very interrested in the website and forum, as they regularly go kayaking, of which, one is an official instructor, and may probably know of it already, but i will certainly tell him cheers . Regards to all, and a happy new year....................Neil. ;) ;) ;) ;)

If they're interested in white-water kayaking, they may also be interested in http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk

Thanks Pete, i`l pass on the details, but i think they`re more into sea kayaking as they are usually found off the Dorset coast or in Poole harbour. Regards and a happy new year to all..............Neil. cheers
